Moving Credit Between Barclays Credit Cards

I decided to seriously step up my manufactured spending game since I quit my job last month. There’s been a lot of trial and error going on, but now I’ve finally got a good driving route (which stores I visit and in what order) and am building relationships with the store employees that I see on an almost daily basis.

One of the things I decided I needed to do was increase the credit limit on my Arrival card, because it’s really an awesome card to use. My credit limit was only $3K, which was pretty low considering it’s a card that I keep in my wallet everyday and use on a somewhat regular basis for normal spending. But I also have a Lufthansa Miles & More MasterCard in my account because of the huge 50K bonus I got with it, and it happens to carry a $12K credit limit that I wouldn’t be using.

With that in mind, I decided that it made sense to move over most of the Lufthansa card’s credit line to the Arrival card. I searched online but only found a section to request a credit line increase. I decided to not go that route since requests like that generally require a credit check. I called the number on the back of my Arrival card instead.

I told the representative exactly what I wanted, and at first she thought I wanted to move the entire credit line over and cancel the card. I clarified that I’m interested in moving credit and she said it shouldn’t be a problem, but would need to transfer me over to the credit department for some additional information.

Again, I mentioned that I wanted to move some of my credit line from one card to another. He asked how much, and I said I’d like to move $10K from the Lufthansa card to the Arrival card. He took a look at my account history, saw that I’ve always paid off all my accounts and that everything was in good standing, and happily moved over the credit line. The new credit lines were immediately shown in my online account. Good job Barclays!

New Barclay Arrival Information

Barclay Arrival Plus World Elite MasterCard

Barclays has made some changes to the Arrival card, and all of them are true enhancements. The card still earns 2 points per dollar on all purchases, comes with 40K bonus points, still caries a 10% rebate (effectively giving 2.2% cash back when redeeming for travel). Here’s a summary of the changes:

  • New name: Now it’s the Barclaycard Arrival Plus™ World Elite MasterCard®.
  • It is now a Chip & PIN card. The customer service representative proactively told me that I’d receive an updated card in the coming weeks.
  • You now have 120 days to redeem points on travel purchases (used to be 90 days).
  • Travel categories now include: Buses, Taxis, Limos, Campgrounds, Trailer Parks, Timeshares, Tourist Attractions and Exhibits, and International railways.
  • The card also has a new look, getting rid of the dull grey color for a new black and blue look.

Again, this is one of my favorite cards for both everyday spend and for manufactured spending. I highly recommend it for purchases that won’t earn a bonus on any other card (dry cleaning, clothing, etc.). Note that I earn a commission if you’re approved for the card through my link. I’d greatly appreciate your support if you decide to give it to me!

    • I don’t think this new version makes you any more or less likely to get approved than you previously were. Existing account holders are getting the new card anyway at the end of the month.
