This is a deal that’s been floating around for a while, but kept mostly underground for fear that it would disappear if it became too public. Amex Platinum Benefits
While the $450 annual fee is a significant deterrant for many people, it certainly isn’t for me. The value that can be had from this card is tremendous, and the 150K bonus points on top of that should make this application a no-brainer.

- Access to Amex Centurion Lounges – increasing in number and definitely some of the better lounges in the US.
- $200 Airline Fee Reimbursement – these can be used on airline gift cards as well. If you were going to book airfare anyway, this can be seen as a direct reduction of your annual fee since it’s money you’d spend anyway. This is a calendar year benefit as well.
- SPG Gold Status – could be useful.
- Status and discounts with National, Avis, and Hertz.
- Access to Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts Program – very useful in some instances where you’re paying for your hotel stays.
- Better overall service from Amex.

I just cancelled my personal platinum. I have had the business gold inn the past (over 2 years ago). Am I eligible for the points?
They said you are ineligible if you’ve gotten the bonus or had “This product” in the last 12 months. So, since you had the Gold, and this is the platinum, you should be OK. Go ahead and ask when you get through to the operator.

If it makes Amex suspicious and they pull the offer, they only pull it for people who apply today. People who were in the know and applied earlier should be unaffected. People who read about it now and apply early, before it’s pulled, should be unaffected.
The only people who will be affected are those who learn about it today and wait too long. Better to have known and lost than never to have known at all.
I leaked it on Reddit after getting the code from milesperday. You’ve described my calculus exactly. I get confirmed for the offer, might as well help everyone else if it doesn’t hurt me, right?
“Should” is a very subjective word.
I hope you are right and they don’t pull the miles from all the applicants that used that code in the past, but I’m not sure at this point if you are correct or not. Only time will tell. Bad move posting on a big BA blog.
My understanding is that this offer code was unique to a specific individual (others may have gotten different codes for the same offer). Everyone who used that person’s offer code and wasn’t targeted is responsible, not just the people who applied today. Like a mistake fare, there is a certain amount of risk in taking advantage of an offer that wasn’t intended to be shared.
What is the right number of people who get to use this code before it becomes too many? I don’t think you can answer that question.
