The First Annual Travel Summary Awards!

Travel Summary Awards2

Welcome to the first annual Travel Summary Awards. These awards have been created to recognize the outstanding contributions made by our favorite points and travel bloggers, as voted on by the readers themselves.

The categories and nominees will be selected by the Academ….er…Travel Summary, while write-in votes are also accepted (if you choose to do a write-in vote, please use the exact name of the blog and not an abbreviation). There are no prizes for this year’s winners, but I hope this changes in the coming years if it generates enough interest.

Voting will commence as soon as this post goes live, and voting ends at 11:59PM PST on 2/28/13. Results will be analyzed and announced in the first week of March, and the complete voting results will be made public thereafter.

Award categories may be added in the future (which I consider a true enhancement rather than a devaluation), but 2012’s categories and nominees are:

*You are only allowed one vote. If you’ve already voted, the poll may no longer show up in your browser.*

    • I don’t anticipate giving prizes away this year, but I do want to give some sort of token of recognition. Suggestions are welcome!

  1. Cool idea! Some of the later categories, like “Best Travel Hacker” and “Best All-Around Blogger” were really tough to choose. Made me realize how lucky we are to have so many great blogs to read.

As for prizes, maybe you could get a “Travel Summary Award Winner” badge designed, that the winner could embed on their website.

One category that would be cool for the next awards is “Best Blog Series.” Some of the most useful content I’ve seen is when a blogger writes a series of articles on one topic. I like that format a lot, since it encourages in-depth coverage.

    • All great ideas, thanks for the input. I doubt bloggers will bother to put a Travel Summary badge on their website, but it’s a great thought for the future!

    • I left out lots of blogs, but that’s why I included an “other” option. It’s impractical to list every blog here. Mommy Points and FTG are listed on a few categories above.

  2. I agree that some were left out. I would have voted for Delta Points for niche blogger if Rene had been listed. Thanks for doing this. It’s a great idea!

    • You can always write in Delta Points!

With that being said, I recognize I need to include more options in the future. I didn’t think it was practical to list the huge number of blogs in each category, but maybe I cut the list too short. I’m taking notes for next year…thanks for the feedback.
