FTUDC “Tweet Up”

If there’s one thing that my readers know about me, it’s that I love Twitter. I’ve found it to be an extremely valuable resource in the points world, and you might recall that it was how I discovered the Amex 100K Platinum offer this past January. I even wrote two posts explaining why I think Twitter is awesome in the points world…so yeah, I’m kind of a fan.

Do It For the Points wrote a follow-up article on the same subject, and we quickly realized we’re on the same page when it comes to Twitter. We, and many, many other Twitter users, have regular conversations about travel, points, and other random subjects. It’s a very unique platform in which you can build online friendships with people you’ve never met and maybe never intend to meet, but FTU happens to be the perfect place to actually hang out with your online community of friends (I wrote about my experience at the last FTU here).

So with that in mind, Do It For the Points approached me with the idea of having a TweetUp at FTU in Washington DC this weekend. A TweetUp is essentially just an opportunity to briefly hang out with and meet some of the people you’ve been talking to for months already, and finally put a face to that Twitter handle.

It’s going to be very informal and will take place after all sessions have ended on Saturday. For simplicity, we’ll just head over to the hotel bar at the host hotel, the Hilton Tyson’s Corner.

If you’re interested, feel free to just stop by after sessions end around 5:30pm Saturday. I’ll get there myself as soon as I can, and hopefully we can hang out, have a good time, and maybe catch a bite to eat afterwards.

And whether you can make it to the bar or not, I’d like to make a suggestion that Parag from Frequent Flyer University thought of and I agree with: In addition to writing your Twitter handle on your FTU name tag, bring your Twitter profile picture with you and attach it to your name tag. It can be hard to read your handle from even a few feet away, but you’ll be surprised how easy it is to recognize that little picture!

I’ll be arriving late Friday so I’ll likely miss the Friday portion of FTU, but I’ll be there the rest of the weekend. I hope to see some of you there!
